Description

Recombinant CD56 Antibody / C-Terminal recognizes the C-terminal region of CD56, also known as neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM1). NCAM1 is an immunoglobulin superfamily cell adhesion glycoprotein involved in cell-cell interactions, migration, differentiation, and signaling. Multiple NCAM1 isoforms are generated through alternative splicing, including major membrane-associated forms that differ in their cytoplasmic domains. CD56 is particularly well known for its expression in neural tissues and on natural killer cells, making it an important target in neuroscience, immunology, and cancer research.

In the nervous system, NCAM1 contributes to neuronal development, neurite outgrowth, axonal guidance, synaptic organization, and neural plasticity. Its adhesive properties can be modulated by post-translational modifications, particularly polysialylation, which reduces NCAM1-mediated adhesion and facilitates dynamic cellular interactions during development and tissue remodeling. NCAM1 also participates in intracellular signaling through interactions with cell-surface receptors, cytoskeletal components, and signaling proteins. A Recombinant CD56 Antibody can support investigation of NCAM1 expression and localization in experimental models involving neural development and cell adhesion.

CD56 is also widely used as a marker of natural killer cells and is expressed by subsets of T lymphocytes. Beyond normal immune populations, NCAM1 expression is associated with several malignancies, including tumors with neural or neuroendocrine differentiation and certain hematologic cancers. Altered NCAM1 expression may influence tumor cell adhesion, migration, signaling, and interactions with surrounding cells. Antibodies directed against the C-terminal region provide a defined targeting strategy for investigating NCAM1 and can complement reagents recognizing other regions or extracellular epitopes of the protein.

Recombinant antibody production provides a defined antibody sequence and supports consistent production across manufacturing lots. This can be advantageous for research requiring reproducible recognition of a specified target region. NSJ Bioreagents offers antibodies for studying CD markers, cell adhesion proteins, and related signaling pathways. This recombinant clone targets the C-terminal region of CD56/NCAM1 and supports research into NCAM1 expression, neural cell adhesion, immune cell biology, and CD56-associated cancer biology.

For additional information on NCAM1/CD56 and its roles in neural cell adhesion, neuronal development, and cell signaling, see our NCAM1 Antibody / Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 Antibody page.

Application Notes

The stated application concentrations are suggested starting points. Titration of the recombinant CD56 antibody may be required due to differences in protocols and secondary/substrate sensitivity.

Immunogen

A peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of human CD56 was used as the immunogen for the recombinant CD56 antibody.

Storage

Store the recombinant CD56 antibody at -20oC.
