Kinesin Family Member 4A Antibody / KIF4A detects kinesin family member 4A, a microtubule-based motor protein involved in chromosome organization, mitosis and cytokinesis. KIF4A belongs to the kinesin-4 family and functions as a chromokinesin, associating with chromosomes and microtubule structures during cell division. Its coordinated effects on chromosome architecture and microtubule dynamics help ensure accurate progression through mitosis.
KIF4A undergoes dynamic changes in localization during the cell cycle. During mitosis, the protein associates with chromosome arms and participates in chromosome condensation and organization. It also contributes to regulation of spindle microtubule dynamics, helping coordinate chromosome positioning and segregation with the structure of the mitotic apparatus. These activities connect KIF4A motor function with the mechanical processes required for accurate cell division.
During anaphase and cytokinesis, KIF4A accumulates at the central spindle and midzone. There it contributes to organization of antiparallel microtubules and regulation of their length and dynamics. KIF4A interacts functionally with proteins that control central spindle architecture, helping establish the specialized microtubule structures required for completion of cytokinesis. Disruption of these processes can interfere with chromosome segregation and genomic stability.
KIF4A is also studied in cancer and proliferative disease because chromosome segregation, spindle organization and cytokinesis must be tightly regulated to maintain genomic integrity. Altered KIF4A expression has been reported in multiple tumor types and investigated in relation to proliferation, tumor progression and clinical outcome. Its functions at the intersection of chromosome organization and microtubule regulation make KIF4A relevant to studies of both normal cell division and disease-associated proliferative mechanisms.
This goat polyclonal antibody was generated against a peptide derived from human KIF4A and has been evaluated for detection of KIF4A protein in research applications. NSJ Bioreagents supplies antibodies for cell division, cytoskeletal and cancer research. A Kinesin Family Member 4A Antibody can be used to investigate chromosome organization, mitotic spindle regulation, cytokinesis, microtubule dynamics and disease-associated changes in KIF4A expression.
For a clone-defined recombinant monoclonal reagent targeting KIF4A, see our KIF4A Antibody 24K13 / Mitotic Kinesin Marker page.
