Interleukin-1 Beta Antibody 28I10 recognizes interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta), a proinflammatory cytokine encoded by the IL1B gene. IL1B is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family and has a central role in innate immune signaling and inflammatory responses. The protein is synthesized as an inactive precursor, pro-IL-1 beta, which requires proteolytic processing to generate the biologically active mature cytokine.
IL-1 beta maturation is closely associated with inflammasome signaling. Activation of inflammasome complexes can promote caspase 1 activity and cleavage of pro-IL-1 beta. Mature IL-1 beta can then be released and bind interleukin 1 receptor type 1 (IL1R1), initiating signaling through pathways that include MyD88, IRAK proteins, NF-kappaB, and MAPKs. These pathways regulate expression of numerous genes involved in inflammation and immune-cell recruitment.
IL1B is produced by activated innate immune cells, including monocytes and macrophages, and can influence communication between immune cells and surrounding tissues. IL-1 beta activity contributes to processes such as leukocyte recruitment, fever, inflammatory pain, host defense, and tissue responses to injury. Dysregulated IL1B signaling has also been investigated in chronic inflammatory and autoinflammatory disorders, metabolic inflammation, and tumor-associated inflammatory responses.
Clone 28I10 is a recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody directed against IL1B. Its recombinant monoclonal format provides a defined reagent for studying interleukin 1 beta protein expression and cytokine regulation.
