IFITM3 Goat Polyclonal Antibody recognizes interferon-induced transmembrane protein 3, a small membrane-associated protein encoded by the IFITM3 gene. IFITM3 belongs to the interferon-induced transmembrane protein family and functions as an important component of intrinsic cellular immunity. Expression of the protein can increase rapidly following interferon stimulation, contributing to an antiviral state that restricts infection by a variety of enveloped viruses.
IFITM3 is particularly associated with endosomal and lysosomal membranes. Its localization places the protein at intracellular sites used by many viruses during entry, allowing IFITM3 to interfere with membrane fusion and prevent efficient release of viral components into the cytoplasm. Proposed mechanisms involve alterations in membrane organization, curvature, fluidity and trafficking. These properties have made IFITM3 an extensively studied host restriction factor in research examining the early stages of viral infection.
Antiviral activity of IFITM3 has been investigated extensively in the context of influenza virus and numerous other enveloped viruses. Regulation occurs prominently through interferon-dependent pathways, linking IFITM3 expression with innate immune signaling and cellular responses to infection. Genetic variation affecting IFITM3 expression or function has also generated interest because of potential associations with differences in susceptibility to or severity of viral disease. An IFITM3 Goat Polyclonal Antibody can support research examining expression of this interferon-responsive restriction factor and its contribution to host defense.
IFITM3 biology extends beyond antiviral immunity. The protein has been investigated in immune cell function, membrane trafficking, cellular differentiation and cancer. Altered IFITM3 expression has been described in several malignancies and has been studied in relation to tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion and disease progression. These findings connect IFITM3 with broader aspects of cell biology and immune regulation in addition to its established antiviral functions. NSJ Bioreagents provides this antibody for research into IFITM3 expression and associated cellular pathways.
An IFITM3 Goat Polyclonal Antibody can be used to investigate interferon responses, intrinsic antiviral immunity, host restriction mechanisms, membrane-associated biology and other processes involving IFITM3.
