GTF2I Antibody / General Transcription Factor II-I Antibody recognizes GTF2I, a multifunctional DNA-binding transcriptional regulator also known as TFII-I. GTF2I binds promoter elements including initiator and E-box sequences and participates in regulation of RNA polymerase II-dependent gene expression. Unlike general transcription factors that function primarily as components of the basal transcription machinery, GTF2I integrates promoter recognition with signals from cellular regulatory pathways, linking transcriptional control to changes in cellular activity.
GTF2I contains multiple characteristic GTF2I-like repeats and can interact with transcription factors and signaling proteins to influence gene expression. The protein has been reported to participate in transcriptional responses involving serum response factor and other promoter-associated regulators. GTF2I is also known as BAP135 because of its association with Bruton's tyrosine kinase, reflecting the connection between this transcription factor and signal-responsive pathways. Through these interactions, GTF2I is studied in the context of transcriptional regulation, cell signaling, proliferation and differentiation.
The GTF2I gene is located within chromosome 7q11.23, a region affected by the recurrent deletion responsible for Williams-Beuren syndrome. GTF2I is consequently studied in developmental and neuroscience research examining the molecular consequences of this genomic deletion. The protein is broadly expressed, including in the brain, and research has also implicated TFII-I in processes involving calcium signaling and myelination. In addition, somatic alterations of GTF2I have been investigated in cancer, further extending interest in this transcriptional regulator across developmental biology and tumor research.
