CD11c Antibody ITGAX/1242 recognizes CD11c, a leukocyte integrin alpha chain encoded by the ITGAX gene. CD11c is also known as integrin alpha X and forms a heterodimer with CD18, or integrin beta 2, to generate integrin alpha X beta 2. This receptor is commonly designated complement receptor 4 (CR4) and belongs to the beta 2 integrin family of adhesion molecules that regulate interactions between leukocytes and their extracellular environment.
CD11c is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular region, a single transmembrane segment, and a short cytoplasmic tail. Its extracellular region contains an inserted I domain that contributes to ligand recognition. Association with CD18 enables conformational changes that regulate ligand binding and downstream cellular responses. Integrin alpha X beta 2 recognizes several ligands, including complement fragment iC3b, and participates in adhesion, migration, phagocytosis, and other processes important to innate and adaptive immunity.
CD11c is strongly associated with dendritic cells and is widely used as a marker for identifying and studying these antigen-presenting cells. Expression is also found on subsets of monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, natural killer cells, and lymphocytes. Because its distribution can change with lineage, differentiation, and activation state, CD11c is useful in studies of immune cell development, inflammatory responses, antigen presentation, and myeloid cell biology.
Integrin alpha X contributes to leukocyte interactions with complement-opsonized material and extracellular ligands. Together with CD18, it helps coordinate cellular adhesion and migration while also participating in phagocytic and immune recognition mechanisms. CD11c expression is therefore frequently examined in research involving dendritic cell differentiation, macrophage populations, inflammatory infiltrates, and hematologic malignancies with characteristic CD11c expression.
Clone ITGAX/1242 is a monoclonal antibody directed against human CD11c. The antibody provides a reagent for studying the ITGAX-encoded alpha X integrin subunit and the distribution of CD11c-expressing immune cell populations.
A CD11c Antibody can be used to investigate expression and localization of the alpha X integrin subunit, while an Integrin Alpha X Antibody provides an alternative nomenclature for studies centered on ITGAX and beta 2 integrin biology.
For additional antibodies targeting this leukocyte integrin family, see our CD Antibodies page.
Optimal dilution of the CD11c Antibody ITGAX/1242 / Integrin Alpha X Antibody should be determined by the researcher.
A partial recombinant protein corresponding to amino acids 637-827 from the human protein was used as the immunogen for the CD11c Antibody ITGAX/1242.
Store the CD11c Antibody ITGAX/1242 at 2-8oC (with azide) or aliquot and store at -20oC or colder (without azide).
