AMPK Beta 1 Antibody recognizes AMP-activated protein kinase beta 1 (PRKAB1), one of the regulatory subunits of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) complex that functions as the primary energy sensor in eukaryotic cells. AMPK is activated during conditions of energy stress when intracellular ATP levels decline and AMP or ADP concentrations rise, allowing cells to restore energy homeostasis by promoting ATP-generating pathways while inhibiting energy-consuming biosynthetic processes. The beta 1 subunit serves as a structural scaffold that stabilizes interactions between the catalytic alpha and regulatory gamma subunits, making it essential for assembly and activity of the functional kinase complex.
AMP-Activated Protein Kinase Beta 1 is widely expressed in tissues with high metabolic demands, including liver, skeletal muscle, heart, kidney, and brain. In addition to its scaffolding role, the beta 1 subunit contains a carbohydrate-binding module that associates with glycogen, enabling the AMPK complex to integrate information about both cellular energy status and glycogen availability. Activated AMPK regulates numerous downstream processes including glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, lipid synthesis, mitochondrial biogenesis, autophagy, protein synthesis, and cell growth, allowing cells to adapt efficiently to nutrient limitation and metabolic stress.
Dysregulation of AMPK signaling has been implicated in obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and many cancers. Because of its central role in coordinating metabolic adaptation, AMP-Activated Protein Kinase Beta 1 is frequently investigated alongside the catalytic alpha and regulatory gamma AMPK subunits to understand kinase activation, substrate selection, and downstream signaling. Interest in AMPK biology continues to expand as therapeutic strategies targeting this pathway are explored for metabolic diseases, aging, inflammation, and oncology.
An AMP-Activated Protein Kinase Beta 1 Antibody is a valuable research tool for studies of AMPK signaling, cellular energy sensing, glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism, mitochondrial function, autophagy, and metabolic disease.
For additional information about this target, see our PRKAB1 Antibody / Protein Kinase AMP-Activated Non-Catalytic Subunit Beta 1 Antibody page.
Titration of the AMPK Beta 1 Antibody / AMP-Activated Protein Kinase Beta 1 Antibody may be required due to differences in protocols and secondary/substrate sensitivity.
A portion of amino acids 4-34 from the human protein was used as the immunogen for this AMPK beta 1 antibody.
Aliquot the AMPK beta 1 antibody and store frozen at -20oC or colder. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
