UQCRC2 Antibody / Ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase core protein 2 Antibody detects UQCRC2, a component of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III, also called the cytochrome bc1 complex. Complex III transfers electrons from reduced ubiquinone to cytochrome c as part of oxidative phosphorylation. This process is coupled to proton movement across the inner mitochondrial membrane through the Q cycle, contributing to the electrochemical gradient used by ATP synthase. UQCRC2 is one of the core subunits that support the organization of the assembled enzyme.
Complex III contains catalytic subunits responsible for electron transfer as well as additional proteins that stabilize the complex and assist its assembly. UQCRC2 is not itself the cytochrome that carries electrons between redox centers. Instead, it forms part of the structural framework that helps maintain the integrity of the respiratory complex. Complex III can also participate in larger assemblies with other respiratory chain complexes, sometimes described as supercomplexes. Such organization may influence respiratory chain stability and the arrangement of electron-transfer components. The designation Ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase core protein 2 Antibody refers to the same gene product.
Dysfunction of complex III can impair mitochondrial ATP production and alter the generation of reactive oxygen species. The consequences depend on the specific subunit affected, the degree of residual respiratory activity, and cellular energy demands. UQCRC2 abundance is frequently considered in the context of respiratory complex composition, but protein levels alone do not establish enzymatic activity. NSJ Bioreagents includes UQCRC2 among mitochondrial proteins involved in the structural organization of oxidative phosphorylation and the maintenance of respiratory chain function. A UQCRC2 Antibody can help contextualize the molecular functions and regulation of this protein.
