Smoothelin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SMTN gene. This gene encodes a structural protein that is found exclusively in contractile smooth muscle cells. It associates with stress fibers and constitutes part of the cytoskeleton. This gene is localized to chromosome 22q12.3, distal to the TUPLE1 locus and outside the DiGeorge syndrome deletion. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
Optimal dilution of the Smoothelin antibody should be determined by the researcher.
Amino acids QELEREEEALASKRFRAERQDNKENWLHSQQREAEQR were used as the immunogen for the Smoothelin antibody. This sequence is specific to the long form but not found in the short form of the protein.
After reconstitution, the Smoothelin antibody can be stored for up to one month at 4oC. For long-term, aliquot and store at -20oC. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
