OCT3 Antibody / SLC22A3 Antibody recognizes Organic Cation Transporter 3 (OCT3), a broadly expressed plasma membrane transporter encoded by the SLC22A3 gene. OCT3 belongs to the solute carrier family 22 of organic cation transporters and mediates sodium-independent uptake of numerous endogenous monoamines, neurotransmitters, and positively charged xenobiotic compounds. Because of its broad tissue distribution and wide substrate specificity, OCT3 plays an important role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and regulating the movement of biologically active cations between tissues and the circulation.
OCT3 is expressed in organs including the brain, heart, liver, kidney, intestine, placenta, and skeletal muscle, where it contributes to the transport of dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, serotonin, histamine, and many therapeutic drugs. Unlike high-affinity neuronal transporters, OCT3 functions as a high-capacity uptake system capable of clearing extracellular monoamines in both neuronal and non-neuronal tissues. An OCT3 Antibody is therefore useful for studying transporter localization, tissue distribution, and regulation under physiological and pathological conditions.
Interest in SLC22A3 has expanded beyond transporter biology because altered expression has been associated with cancer progression, cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, and interindividual differences in drug response.
