SKP2 (S-phase kinase-associated protein 2) is an F-box protein that serves as a critical component of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. This protein functions as a substrate recognition subunit, directing the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of key cell cycle regulators, most notably the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p27^Kip1 and p21^Cip1. Through this activity, SKP2 promotes cell cycle progression from G1 to S phase.
