SAP Antibody Detection in Mouse Liver WB. Western blot testing of mouse liver tissue lysate with SAP Antibody shows a strong, discrete band at approximately 27-28 kDa, consistent with the expected size of serum amyloid P component. The clean background and prominent target-sized signal support detection of amyloid P component in mouse liver.
Amyloid P Component Antibody Detection in Mouse Liver WB. Western blot testing of mouse liver tissue lysate with Amyloid P Component Antibody shows a distinct band at approximately 27-28 kDa with minimal background signal, consistent with the expected molecular weight of SAP.
SAP Antibody Staining of Rat Liver IHC. Immunohistochemistry testing of FFPE rat liver tissue with SAP Antibody shows widespread brown immunoreactivity throughout the hepatic parenchyma, with predominantly cytoplasmic staining of hepatocytes. HIER was performed by steaming tissue sections in pH 6 citrate buffer before antibody testing.

Description

SAP Antibody / Amyloid P Component Antibody recognizes serum amyloid P component, a member of the pentraxin family of calcium-dependent ligand-binding proteins. Also known as APCS and PTX2, serum amyloid P is a secreted glycoprotein that forms stable oligomeric structures and interacts with a variety of biological ligands. The protein is closely associated with extracellular protein deposition, innate immune processes and the handling of cellular material released during tissue damage.

SAP is particularly notable for its association with amyloid. Amyloid P component is consistently present within pathological amyloid deposits and binds proteins arranged in the characteristic amyloid cross-beta structure. Its interaction with amyloid fibrils has been investigated for its potential contribution to fibril stability and resistance to proteolytic degradation. This relationship makes SAP Antibody research relevant to studies of amyloid formation, persistence and clearance.

Serum amyloid P also binds chromatin components, including DNA and histones, and can recognize material exposed by damaged or apoptotic cells. These interactions have led to investigation of SAP in the clearance of nuclear material and maintenance of innate immune homeostasis. Although serum amyloid P and serum amyloid A share similar terminology and associations with amyloid-related research, they are structurally and functionally distinct proteins.

Individual SAP subunits have a molecular weight of approximately 25 kDa and assemble into the characteristic pentraxin structure. Calcium-dependent ligand binding contributes to interactions with amyloid fibrils, chromatin and other molecular targets. The combination of amyloid association and pattern-recognition properties gives amyloid P component a distinctive role at the intersection of extracellular protein deposition and innate immunity.

NSJ Bioreagents offers this rabbit polyclonal SAP Antibody for research into amyloid P component biology and related processes. For our primary APCS resource and a Protein Microarray Validated monoclonal reagent, see our Serum Amyloid P Antibody APCS/3240 / APCS Antibody page. An Amyloid P Component Antibody provides a research tool for investigating SAP expression, pentraxin biology and amyloid-associated mechanisms.
