Immunoglobulin alpha 2 heavy chain (IGHA2) is the heavy chain component that defines the IgA2 subclass of immunoglobulin A antibodies. IgA antibodies are a major component of mucosal immune defense and are produced by plasma cells in lymphoid and mucosa-associated tissues. The recombinant Human IgA2 Antibody for ELISA Biotin Conjugate recognizes the IgA2 subclass of Immunoglobulin A and enables detection of IgA2 antibodies in biological samples using biotin-based detection systems. IgA2 is particularly enriched in mucosal environments where it contributes to immune protection against microbial pathogens.
IgA antibodies are divided into two subclasses in humans, IgA1 and IgA2, both of which contain immunoglobulin alpha heavy chains but differ in hinge region structure and susceptibility to bacterial proteases. IgA2 contains a shorter hinge region that provides increased resistance to proteolytic cleavage by bacterial enzymes commonly found in mucosal environments. Because of this structural feature, IgA2 is often more prevalent in secretions of the gastrointestinal tract and other mucosal tissues where microbial exposure is high. The IGHA2 gene encodes the heavy chain that defines this subclass of immunoglobulin.
IgA2 antibodies are produced by plasma cells located within mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues including Peyer's patches, intestinal lamina propria, and other mucosal immune compartments. In these tissues IgA antibodies bind microbial antigens and toxins, preventing pathogen attachment to epithelial surfaces and contributing to immune exclusion mechanisms that protect mucosal barriers. Secretory IgA antibodies, including IgA2-containing complexes, are transported across epithelial cells via the polymeric immunoglobulin receptor and released into mucosal secretions where they function as a key component of adaptive immune defense.
Because the distribution of IgA1 and IgA2 subclasses varies among tissues and immune responses, an IgA2 antibody provides a useful tool for studying subclass-specific antibody production and mucosal immune regulation. Detection of IGHA2 expression allows researchers to examine IgA subclass composition in biological samples and investigate plasma cell responses in mucosal immunity, infection, and inflammatory conditions. Biotin-conjugated antibodies such as this recombinant IgA2 antibody facilitate sensitive detection through avidin or streptavidin-based assay systems in immunoassays and imaging applications.
The stated application concentrations are suggested starting points. Titration of the Human IgA2 Antibody for ELISA Biotin Conjugate may be required due to differences in protocols and secondary/substrate sensitivity.
Human IgA2 was used as the immunogen for this recombinant Human IgA2 antibody.
