Friend leukemia integration 1 (FLI1) is a nuclear ETS family transcription factor involved in developmental gene expression, hematopoietic differentiation, and oncogenic transcriptional signaling pathways. FLI1 antibody, also referred to as Friend leukemia integration 1 antibody, Ewing sarcoma marker antibody, ETS family transcription factor antibody, and EWS-FLI1 associated marker antibody in the literature, recognizes a nuclear regulatory protein strongly associated with Ewing sarcoma family tumors. Chromosomal translocations involving EWSR1 and FLI1 generate oncogenic fusion proteins that alter transcriptional regulation and contribute to tumor-associated signaling pathways. Because EWSR1-FLI1 fusion events are characteristic molecular features of many Ewing sarcoma tumors, FLI1 remains widely used in sarcoma pathology and oncogenic transcription research.
FLI1 additionally participates in hematopoietic and endothelial differentiation pathways and is normally expressed within selected vascular and immune-associated cell populations. However, in oncology research and diagnostic pathology, FLI1 is particularly recognized for its role in Ewing sarcoma-associated transcriptional biology and nuclear tumor marker applications. ETS family transcription factors such as FLI1 regulate broad developmental and proliferation-associated gene expression programs that can become dysregulated in malignancy-associated signaling environments.
Immunohistochemistry analysis supports detection of nuclear FLI1 expression within Ewing sarcoma-associated tumor samples, consistent with the expected localization of this ETS family transcription-associated regulatory protein.
