CK8/18 Antibody / KRT8 KRT18 Antibody recognizes the keratin 8 and keratin 18 intermediate filament system characteristic of many simple epithelial cells. Keratin 8 (KRT8/CK8) is a type II intermediate filament protein that commonly forms heteropolymers with the type I protein keratin 18 (KRT18/CK18). Together, KRT8 and KRT18 form an extensive cytoplasmic filament network that contributes to epithelial cell architecture, mechanical stability and maintenance of tissue integrity.
CK8 and CK18 are among the principal keratins expressed by simple epithelia. The pair is found in numerous epithelial tissues, including hepatocytes, renal tubular epithelium and epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract and glandular organs. Their characteristic distribution makes a CK8/18 Antibody useful for studying epithelial differentiation, intermediate filament organization and changes in epithelial phenotype during normal tissue development and remodeling.
The KRT8/KRT18 system is also widely investigated in cancer research. CK8 and CK18 expression is retained in many epithelial-derived malignancies, including carcinomas of the breast, lung, liver, gastrointestinal tract and other glandular tissues. Analysis of these proteins can help characterize epithelial tumor cells and investigate changes in cytokeratin expression associated with differentiation and tumor progression. KRT8 and KRT18 are therefore frequently studied alongside other epithelial and carcinoma-associated markers.
In addition to providing structural support, the CK8/CK18 intermediate filament network responds dynamically to changes in cellular conditions. Both proteins undergo post-translational modification and filament reorganization in response to cellular stress, injury and signaling events. These properties have expanded interest in KRT8 and KRT18 beyond their traditional roles as epithelial markers to studies of cytoskeletal regulation, stress responses and disease-associated alterations in epithelial cells.
NSJ Bioreagents offers recombinant rabbit monoclonal CK8/18 Antibody clone KRT8.18/6579R for investigating KRT8/KRT18 expression and intermediate filament organization. A KRT8 KRT18 Antibody can support research into epithelial differentiation, cytoskeletal biology, cellular stress and carcinoma-associated changes in keratin expression.
Researchers studying the K8/K18 intermediate filament system can explore our Cytokeratin 8/18 Antibody page for additional reagents targeting these widely expressed epithelial keratins.
Optimal dilution of the CK8/18 Antibody / KRT8 KRT18 Antibody should be determined by the researcher.
Recombinant full-length human CK8 and CK18 proteins were used as the immunogen for the recombinant CK8/18 antibody.
Aliquot the recombinant CK8/18 antibody and store frozen at -20oC or colder. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
