Progesterone Antibody 6-5E-10B / Progesterone Hormone Antibody recognizes progesterone, a C21 steroid hormone involved in reproductive physiology, endocrine regulation, and pregnancy. Progesterone, frequently abbreviated P4, is synthesized from cholesterol through the steroidogenic pathway and is also known chemically as pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione. Major sites of progesterone production include the corpus luteum, placenta, and adrenal glands.
Progesterone mediates many of its effects through progesterone receptors, ligand-activated transcription factors belonging to the nuclear receptor superfamily. Progesterone receptor signaling regulates gene expression associated with endometrial function, embryo implantation, pregnancy maintenance, and mammary gland biology. Interactions with estrogen and other steroid hormone pathways further contribute to the coordinated regulation of reproductive and endocrine physiology.
As a steroid molecule, progesterone shares substantial structural similarity with other hormones and steroid metabolites. This relationship makes antibody recognition and cross-reactivity important considerations in progesterone research.
