PPP6C Antibody / Protein phosphatase 6 catalytic subunit Antibody detects PPP6C, the catalytic subunit of protein phosphatase 6, a serine/threonine phosphatase belonging to the PPP family of protein phosphatases. Reversible phosphorylation regulates the activity, localization, and interactions of many cellular proteins. PPP6C removes phosphate groups from selected substrates and functions within complexes containing regulatory and scaffold proteins. These associated components influence substrate recognition and the cellular distribution of phosphatase activity, making the composition of the complex important for understanding PPP6C function.
Protein phosphatase 6 participates in processes associated with cell-cycle progression, mitotic organization, and signaling responses. Studies have connected PP6 complexes with the regulation of Aurora A kinase and aspects of centrosome and spindle function. PPP6C has also been implicated in responses to DNA damage and in selected inflammatory signaling pathways. These activities are context-dependent and should not be interpreted as evidence that PPP6C directly dephosphorylates every protein involved in those pathways. The catalytic subunit acts through partnerships that constrain when and where its activity is expressed. The Protein phosphatase 6 catalytic subunit Antibody designation refers to this same molecular target.
Somatic alterations in PPP6C have been identified in some cancers, including melanoma, prompting interest in how phosphatase dysfunction affects kinase signaling and cellular division. The effects of a particular alteration can depend on residual catalytic activity and the integrity of regulatory complexes. PPP6C differs from the catalytic subunits of protein phosphatases 1 and 2A despite shared enzymatic features. NSJ Bioreagents includes PPP6C among targets involved in phosphorylation-dependent regulation. A PPP6C Antibody provides a way to investigate the biological role of PPP6C and the molecular processes associated with this target.
