Description

pp65 Antibody CMV101 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that recognizes cytomegalovirus phosphoprotein 65 (pp65), a major structural protein of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Also known as human herpesvirus 5 (HHV-5), HCMV is a member of the Herpesviridae family and contains a large double-stranded DNA genome. The viral pp65 protein is encoded by the UL83 gene and represents one of the most abundant components of the cytomegalovirus tegument. Located between the viral capsid and envelope, this protein-rich layer contains factors involved in viral replication, particle assembly, and interactions with host cellular machinery. The Cytomegalovirus p65 Antibody targets an important viral antigen associated with cytomegalovirus biology and host-pathogen interactions.

Human cytomegalovirus is widely distributed throughout the human population and establishes lifelong infection following primary exposure. In immunocompetent individuals, infection is frequently asymptomatic or produces relatively mild symptoms. However, HCMV can cause serious complications in transplant recipients, immunocompromised individuals, and developing fetuses. Following primary infection, the virus can establish latency and reactivate when immune surveillance becomes impaired. These characteristics make cytomegalovirus an important subject of research involving viral persistence, immune evasion, and the molecular mechanisms of infectious disease.

The UL83 gene encodes a phosphoprotein with an approximate molecular weight of 65 kDa. During infection, pp65 is delivered into host cells as a component of incoming viral particles and subsequently accumulates as viral gene expression progresses. The protein can exhibit nuclear and cytoplasmic localization at different stages of the viral replication cycle. In addition to its structural contribution to the tegument, pp65 participates in interactions between viral components and host cellular proteins. Its abundance and intracellular distribution make it a prominent antigen for investigating cytomegalovirus protein expression and viral replication.

Cytomegalovirus pp65 is also an important component of the host antiviral immune response. The protein contains immunogenic epitopes recognized by virus-specific CD8+ T lymphocytes and has been extensively investigated in studies of cellular immunity to HCMV. It has also been implicated in modulation of innate immune signaling and interference with antiviral defense mechanisms. These properties contribute to the importance of pp65 in research involving immune surveillance, viral immune evasion, and persistent infection. The Cytomegalovirus p65 Antibody is relevant to studies examining viral antigen expression and interactions between cytomegalovirus and the host immune system.

Research involving pp65 provides insight into cytomegalovirus replication, tegument organization, antigen recognition, and the regulation of host immune responses. Understanding the biological functions of viral phosphoproteins contributes to broader investigations of herpesvirus infection and viral persistence. NSJ Bioreagents offers antibodies targeting cytomegalovirus antigens for research into molecular virology and infectious disease. A pp65 Antibody such as clone CMV101 provides a research tool for examining cytomegalovirus p65 expression and investigating the molecular processes associated with HCMV infection.
