PEPCK2 Antibody clone 3F7 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that recognizes mitochondrial phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, also known as PEPCK-M and PCK2. This enzyme catalyzes the guanosine triphosphate-dependent conversion of oxaloacetate to phosphoenolpyruvate within the mitochondrial matrix. The reaction connects tricarboxylic acid cycle activity with gluconeogenesis and other metabolic pathways that require phosphoenolpyruvate or oxaloacetate-derived carbon. PEPCK2 is produced with an amino-terminal mitochondrial targeting sequence that directs the newly synthesized protein into mitochondria.
PEPCK-M is distinct from PEPCK-C, the cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase encoded by the PCK1 gene.
