Myosin Light Chain 2 Antibody detects myosin regulatory light chain 2, a contractile protein encoded by the MYL2 gene and commonly referred to as MLC2 or MLC-2v. MYL2 is a regulatory light chain associated with the neck region of myosin heavy chains in striated muscle. It contributes to the structural and functional properties of the myosin motor and has a particularly important role in cardiac muscle, where regulation of actomyosin interactions is essential for normal contraction.
MYL2 participates in the control of cardiac contractility through phosphorylation-dependent modulation of myosin function. Phosphorylation of the regulatory light chain can increase myosin lever-arm stiffness and influence the positioning and mobility of myosin heads relative to actin. These effects alter cross-bridge cycling and can increase calcium sensitivity and contractile force, providing a mechanism through which cardiac muscle fine-tunes mechanical output in response to physiological demands.
In addition to regulating mature cardiac contraction, MYL2 contributes to heart development and organization of the contractile apparatus. During cardiogenesis, myosin light chain 2 participates in cardiac myofibril assembly and the establishment of effective contractile activity. Its expression is closely associated with differentiated cardiomyocytes, making MYL2 an important subject in studies of cardiac development, muscle differentiation and cardiomyocyte biology.
Genetic alterations in MYL2 have been associated with inherited cardiomyopathies, including hypertrophic and dilated forms of disease. Changes affecting the structure, abundance or phosphorylation state of MYL2 can disturb sarcomere mechanics and alter the relationship between calcium signaling and force generation. Research on MYL2 therefore provides insight into how abnormalities of individual sarcomeric proteins can influence cardiac performance and contribute to pathological remodeling.
Because MYL2 connects sarcomere structure with dynamic regulation of myosin activity, it is useful for studies of muscle contraction, myofilament calcium sensitivity, cardiac development and mechanisms underlying cardiomyopathy. NSJ Bioreagents offers this MLC2 Polyclonal Antibody for research into MYL2 expression and associated contractile pathways. A Myosin Light Chain 2 Antibody can support investigation of cardiac and skeletal muscle biology, sarcomere function and regulation of actomyosin-dependent contraction.
