MUC5AC Antibody MUC5AC/917 / Gastric Tumor Mucin Marker detects MUC5AC, a high molecular weight secreted glycoprotein and member of the gel-forming mucin family. MUC5AC is produced by specialized mucus-secreting epithelial cells and is particularly abundant in the stomach and respiratory tract. Extensive O-linked glycosylation contributes to the physical properties of MUC5AC and its ability to form hydrated mucus gels that protect and lubricate epithelial surfaces.
MUC5AC is prominently expressed by surface and foveolar epithelial cells of the stomach. Secreted MUC5AC contributes to the gastric mucus barrier, helping protect the underlying epithelium from acid, digestive enzymes, microorganisms and mechanical injury. Its characteristic expression in mucus-producing gastric epithelial cells makes MUC5AC useful for investigating gastric differentiation, mucosal barrier biology and secretory epithelial phenotypes.
Alterations in MUC5AC expression and glycosylation are studied in gastric disease and neoplastic transformation. MUC5AC can be retained or aberrantly expressed in gastric carcinoma, where its distribution provides information about the mucin-producing phenotype of tumor epithelial cells. Mucin expression patterns are also investigated in other epithelial cancers, including pancreatic, ovarian and pulmonary tumors, particularly where gastric-type or mucinous differentiation is present. A gastric tumor mucin marker can therefore complement other epithelial and lineage markers when investigating tumor differentiation.
Outside the stomach, MUC5AC is an important component of respiratory mucus and is produced by mucus-secreting airway epithelial cells. Its expression can increase in response to inflammation, infection, allergens and environmental irritants. MUC5AC therefore connects gastrointestinal and respiratory research through its broader functions in mucus production, epithelial protection and mucosal defense.
Clone MUC5AC/917 is a mouse monoclonal antibody generated using a recombinant partial human MUC5AC protein. It has been evaluated by immunohistochemistry in FFPE human gastric carcinoma tissue, where cytoplasmic and luminal staining is observed in tumor epithelial cells. A MUC5AC Antibody can be used to investigate gastric mucin expression, epithelial differentiation and MUC5AC-associated tumor phenotypes.

1. Optimal dilution of the MUC5AC Antibody MUC5AC/917 / Gastric Tumor Mucin Marker should be determined by the researcher.
2. The prediluted format is supplied in a dropper bottle and is optimized for use in IHC. After epitope retrieval step (if required), drip mAb solution onto the tissue section and incubate at RT for 30 min.
Recombinant human partial protein was used as the immunogen for the MUC5AC Antibody MUC5AC/917.
Store the MUC5AC Antibody MUC5AC/917 at 2-8oC (with azide) or aliquot and store at -20oC or colder (without azide).
