Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme-containing peroxidase enzyme encoded by the MPO gene and is one of the most abundant proteins in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils. MPO Antibody Recombinant Rabbit MAb MPO/8290R recognizes this important innate immune enzyme and supports detection of Myeloperoxidase / MPO in studies of inflammation, neutrophil biology, and myeloid cell function. MPO catalyzes the production of reactive oxidant species such as hypochlorous acid during the respiratory burst, contributing to antimicrobial defense against engulfed pathogens.
Myeloperoxidase antibody, also referred to as MPO antibody or myeloid peroxidase antibody in the literature, detects a granule-associated enzyme primarily expressed in neutrophils, with additional expression in monocytes and certain immature myeloid precursors. Because MPO expression is strongly associated with granulocytic lineage cells, it is widely used as a marker for identifying neutrophil-rich inflammatory infiltrates and myeloid cell populations in biological samples.
