Ku80 (XRCC5) is a DNA repair protein that functions as a central component of the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway responsible for repair of DNA double-strand breaks. Ku80 forms a heterodimeric complex with Ku70 (XRCC6) that binds damaged DNA termini and recruits DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs) along with additional repair machinery required for genomic maintenance and chromosomal stability.
