Interleukin 5 Antibody IL5/4161 recognizes interleukin 5 (IL-5), a secreted cytokine encoded by the IL5 gene that plays an important role in eosinophil development, activation, and survival. IL-5 is strongly associated with type 2 immune responses and is produced by several immune-cell populations, including activated T helper 2 cells and group 2 innate lymphoid cells. The cytokine was historically described as T cell-replacing factor because of its ability to promote B-cell differentiation and antibody production.
IL-5 exerts its biological effects through a heterodimeric receptor composed of the ligand-binding IL5RA alpha subunit and the common beta subunit CSF2RB (CD131). CSF2RB is also shared by the receptor systems for IL-3 and GM-CSF. Binding of IL-5 to its receptor activates intracellular signaling pathways including JAK-STAT, PI3K-AKT, and MAPKs, connecting cytokine recognition with cellular survival, proliferation, differentiation, and effector functions.
Eosinophils are particularly responsive to IL-5, which promotes their differentiation from hematopoietic progenitors and supports the survival and activation of mature cells. IL-5 is consequently an important subject in research involving eosinophilic inflammation, asthma, allergic disease, and host responses to parasitic infection. Its effects on B-cell biology and antibody production also connect IL-5 signaling with broader mechanisms of adaptive and humoral immunity.
Clone IL5/4161 is a mouse monoclonal antibody generated against recombinant mature human IL5 protein. The antibody has also been evaluated on a HuProt protein microarray containing more than 19,000 full-length human proteins to assess target specificity. As an IL-5 Antibody, clone IL5/4161 provides a defined reagent for investigating this type 2 cytokine and its relationship to eosinophil biology and immune regulation. NSJ Bioreagents supplies IL5/4161 for research use only.
An Interleukin 5 Antibody can be used to investigate IL-5 expression and molecular mechanisms connecting cytokine signaling, eosinophil biology, humoral immunity, and type 2 inflammatory responses.
