IL1RA Antibody recognizes interleukin 1 receptor antagonist, a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family encoded by the IL1RN gene. IL1RN functions as an endogenous inhibitor of IL-1 signaling and helps regulate inflammatory responses. In contrast to the receptor agonists IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta, IL-1 receptor antagonist can bind the interleukin 1 receptor without initiating the same downstream proinflammatory signaling response.
IL-1 receptor antagonist competes with IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta for binding to interleukin 1 receptor type 1 (IL1R1). By occupying the receptor without promoting productive signaling, IL1RN can limit activation of downstream pathways including NF-kappaB and MAPKs. This competitive antagonism provides an important mechanism for controlling the strength and duration of IL-1-mediated inflammatory responses.
The IL1RN gene produces multiple protein isoforms, including secreted and intracellular forms. These isoforms contribute to regulation of IL-1 activity in different cellular environments. The balance between IL-1 receptor agonists and IL1RN can influence immune-cell activation, tissue responses to injury, and the persistence or resolution of inflammation. IL1RN is therefore studied in innate immunity, inflammatory and autoinflammatory disease, tissue injury, and cytokine regulation.

As an Interleukin 1 Receptor Antagonist Antibody, it provides a reagent for investigating the expression of an endogenous inhibitor within the IL-1 signaling system.
