IL-17F Antibody recognizes interleukin 17F (IL-17F), a secreted cytokine belonging to the IL-17 family that plays a central role in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. IL-17F is produced predominantly by T helper 17 (Th17) cells, although it can also be expressed by gamma delta T cells, innate lymphoid cells, mast cells, and other activated immune cell populations. Together with the closely related cytokine IL-17A, IL-17F promotes host defense against extracellular bacteria and fungi by stimulating epithelial cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and other stromal cells to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial peptides. IL-17F signals through a receptor complex composed primarily of IL17RA and IL17RC, activating downstream NF-kappaB, MAPK, and C/EBP signaling pathways that recruit and activate neutrophils at sites of infection and tissue injury.
Although IL-17F shares substantial sequence homology with IL-17A, it exhibits distinct biological properties and generally displays lower signaling potency while contributing to sustained inflammatory responses. IL-17F can function as a homodimer or as a heterodimer with IL-17A, broadening the diversity of IL-17-mediated signaling. Elevated IL-17F expression has been reported in chronic inflammatory disorders including psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and multiple sclerosis. Because IL-17F contributes to epithelial barrier function while also promoting chronic inflammation when dysregulated, it has become an important target for studies investigating autoimmune disease mechanisms and therapeutic intervention.
Beyond inflammation, IL-17F has emerged as a contributor to tumor biology through its effects on the tumor microenvironment. Depending on the tissue context, IL-17F may influence angiogenesis, immune cell recruitment, extracellular matrix remodeling, and interactions between malignant cells and surrounding stromal cells. These diverse activities have prompted investigation of IL-17F as both a potential biomarker and a therapeutic target across several cancer types. IL-17F Antibody is therefore valuable for studies examining immune regulation, inflammatory signaling, cytokine biology, and the relationship between chronic inflammation and tumor progression.
This IL-17F Antibody has been validated for applications including Western blotting, where it detects a predominant band corresponding to the mature glycosylated form of IL-17F at approximately 27-30 kDa, with a lower molecular weight non-glycosylated form also observed in selected cell lysates. The antibody provides a useful tool for investigating IL-17F expression across human, mouse, and rat samples in studies of inflammation, mucosal immunity, autoimmune disease, infectious disease, and cancer research.
