Lambda Light Chain Antibody reagents are used to detect immunoglobulins containing lambda light chains. Immunoglobulin molecules consist of two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains, with each antibody containing either kappa or lambda light chains. These light chains contribute to the antigen-binding region of the immunoglobulin molecule and are expressed by B cells and antibody-secreting plasma cells.
Human lambda light chains are encoded by gene segments within the immunoglobulin lambda locus on chromosome 22. Rearrangement of variable and joining gene segments contributes to immunoglobulin diversity, while lambda light chains pair with immunoglobulin heavy chains to form functional antibodies. Lambda chains may be present as components of membrane-bound B-cell receptors, secreted immunoglobulins, or free immunoglobulin light chains.
Lambda light chain is commonly studied as a B-cell marker because mature B-cell populations express immunoglobulins containing either kappa or lambda light chains. Polyclonal B-cell populations normally contain both light-chain types, whereas restricted expression of one light-chain class can provide information about clonality. A B-Cell Marker Antibody targeting lambda light chain can therefore complement kappa light-chain reagents in studies of B-cell and plasma-cell populations.
Lambda light-chain expression is investigated in immunology, antibody production, B-cell biology, and research involving lymphoid and plasma-cell disorders. Free monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains have also historically been described as Bence Jones proteins, terminology associated with studies of plasma-cell dyscrasias and abnormal immunoglobulin production. Detection of lambda expression can consequently provide information about both normal immunoglobulin biology and clonal lymphoid populations.
A Lambda Light Chain Antibody such as clone IGLC1/9475 provides a mouse monoclonal reagent generated against purified human lambda light chain. The antibody is specific for human lambda light chain and shows no cross-reaction with kappa light chain or the five immunoglobulin heavy-chain classes, supporting selective investigation of lambda-expressing B-cell and plasma-cell populations. NSJ Bioreagents offers IGLC1/9475 for research examining immunoglobulin expression, light-chain restriction, and B-cell biology.
For a recombinant mouse monoclonal targeting the same immunoglobulin light-chain class, see our Lambda Light Chain Antibody rLLC/1738 / IGL Antibody page.
Optimal dilution of the Lambda Light Chain Antibody IGLC1/9475 / B-Cell Marker Antibody should be determined by the researcher.
