IGFBP2 Antibody / IGF Binding Protein 2 Antibody detects insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2, a secreted protein encoded by the IGFBP2 gene. IGFBP2 is one of six major high-affinity insulin-like growth factor binding proteins and participates in the regulation of IGF-I and IGF-II availability and activity. Through these interactions, IGFBP2 can influence IGF receptor signaling and biological processes associated with cell growth, differentiation, survival and metabolism.
IGF binding protein 2 contains conserved regions involved in high-affinity interaction with insulin-like growth factors. Binding of IGFs by IGFBP2 can affect their stability, extracellular distribution and accessibility to cell-surface IGF receptors. In addition to these classical IGF-dependent functions, IGFBP2 has been associated with IGF-independent activities involving extracellular matrix components, cell-surface interactions and intracellular signaling mechanisms. These different modes of action contribute to the diverse biological effects associated with IGFBP2 expression.
IGFBP2 is expressed in a variety of tissues and has important roles during growth and development. Its expression can vary with tissue type, developmental stage and physiological state. IGFBP2 has also been investigated in metabolic biology, including studies of insulin sensitivity, glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism. An IGFBP2 Antibody can be used to examine changes in protein expression and distribution in experimental models investigating these processes.
IGFBP2 is also extensively studied in cancer biology. Increased IGFBP2 expression has been reported in multiple malignancies, where it has been investigated in relation to tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion and disease progression. Depending on the cellular context, these associations may involve modulation of IGF signaling as well as mechanisms that are partly or completely independent of IGF receptor activation. As a secreted protein, IGFBP2 has additionally attracted interest in biomarker research and studies examining circulating proteins associated with disease.
Research on IGFBP2 extends to neurological function, bone biology, aging and tissue remodeling. The involvement of IGFBP2 across these areas reflects the broad biological importance of the insulin-like growth factor system and the mechanisms that regulate growth factor availability. Studying IGFBP2 expression can therefore provide insight into both normal physiological regulation and signaling changes associated with disease.
NSJ Bioreagents offers IGFBP2 Antibody reagents for research into IGFBP2 expression and biology. An IGF Binding Protein 2 Antibody can support studies of IGF signaling, cellular growth, metabolism, development and cancer-associated processes.
