IFNA1 Antibody 2-48 / Interferon Alpha-1 Protein Antibody recognizes interferon alpha 1 (IFNA1), a member of the type I interferon family involved in antiviral defense and immune regulation. IFNA1 signals through the shared type I interferon receptor complex composed of IFNAR1 and IFNAR2. Activation of this receptor initiates JAK-STAT signaling and expression of interferon-stimulated genes that contribute to antiviral activity, immune-cell regulation, and cellular responses to infection.
Interferon alpha proteins are produced in response to viral infection and other immune stimuli and participate in communication between innate and adaptive immune systems. IFNA1 can influence antiviral defense, antigen presentation, natural killer cell activity, dendritic cell function, and inflammatory signaling. These biological activities make the Interferon Alpha-1 Protein relevant to studies of host defense, cytokine signaling, immune regulation, and cancer biology.
The human interferon alpha family contains multiple proteins with substantial amino acid sequence similarity. Despite this homology, individual subtypes are encoded by separate genes and can exhibit differences in expression, receptor interactions, and biological activity. Distinguishing IFNA1 from closely related family members such as IFNA2 can therefore be important when investigating subtype-specific interferon biology. Antibodies with documented subtype selectivity provide researchers with tools for examining individual members of this closely related cytokine family.
Clone 2-48 is a mouse monoclonal antibody generated against human interferon alpha 1 and recognizes IFNA1 without cross-reactivity to interferon alpha 2.
