IFITM3 Polyclonal Antibody recognizes interferon-induced transmembrane protein 3, a small membrane-associated protein encoded by the IFITM3 gene. IFITM3 is a member of the interferon-induced transmembrane protein family and is an important component of intrinsic antiviral immunity. Its expression can be strongly induced by interferons, helping establish a cellular state that restricts infection by a broad range of enveloped viruses.
IFITM3 is enriched within endosomal and lysosomal membranes, positioning the protein at intracellular compartments used by many viruses during cell entry. At these sites, IFITM3 can interfere with fusion between viral and cellular membranes and thereby restrict release of viral contents into the cytoplasm. Proposed mechanisms involve alterations in membrane organization, fluidity, curvature and trafficking. These effects make IFITM3 an important host restriction factor for investigating the earliest stages of viral infection.
The antiviral functions of IFITM3 have been studied extensively in relation to influenza virus and numerous other enveloped viruses. IFITM3 expression is closely connected to interferon signaling and the innate immune response, while genetic variation affecting the protein has generated interest in individual differences in susceptibility to and severity of viral infection. An IFITM3 Polyclonal Antibody can therefore support studies of interferon responses, host-pathogen interactions and intrinsic cellular defense mechanisms.
IFITM3 also participates in biological processes extending beyond antiviral restriction. Its expression has been investigated in immune cell function, membrane trafficking and cellular differentiation. Increased IFITM3 expression has additionally been reported in several malignancies and studied in relation to tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion and disease progression. These observations have broadened interest in IFITM3 as a membrane-associated protein connecting innate immune biology with other aspects of cellular regulation. NSJ Bioreagents provides this antibody for research into IFITM3 expression and function.
An IFITM3 Polyclonal Antibody can be used to investigate interferon signaling, intrinsic antiviral immunity, viral restriction, membrane-associated processes and other cellular pathways involving IFITM3.
