Heat Shock Protein Beta-2 Antibody / HSPB2 Protein Antibody recognizes HSPB2, a member of the small heat shock protein family that is particularly associated with striated muscle. HSPB2 is an approximately 20 kDa protein involved in cellular mechanisms that help maintain protein homeostasis during normal physiological activity and periods of stress. Like other small heat shock proteins, HSPB2 can function as a molecular chaperone and contribute to protection against the accumulation of damaged or improperly folded proteins.
HSPB2 contains the conserved alpha-crystallin domain characteristic of small heat shock proteins. Unlike ATP-dependent HSP70 chaperones, members of the HSPB family can act as ATP-independent holdases that associate with partially unfolded client proteins and reduce inappropriate aggregation. Stabilized clients can subsequently be transferred to other components of the protein quality-control machinery for refolding or degradation, allowing small heat shock proteins to contribute to maintenance of proteome integrity.
Heat shock protein beta-2 was originally identified through its interaction with myotonic dystrophy protein kinase (DMPK) and is consequently also known as myotonic dystrophy protein kinase-binding protein, or MKBP. HSPB2 is expressed prominently in cardiac and skeletal muscle, where cells experience substantial mechanical and metabolic demands. Research on HSPB2 has examined its contribution to muscle physiology, mitochondrial function, energy metabolism and adaptation to cellular stress.
HSPB2 can function within broader networks of small heat shock proteins and other molecular chaperones. These systems help cells respond to oxidative, metabolic and proteotoxic challenges by stabilizing vulnerable proteins and coordinating their recovery or removal. The relationship between HSPB2, muscle function and cellular stress has made the protein relevant to studies of cardiac biology, skeletal muscle biology and mechanisms responsible for maintaining protein quality control.
NSJ Bioreagents offers this rabbit polyclonal Heat Shock Protein Beta-2 Antibody generated against recombinant human HSPB2 spanning amino acids 1-182. This immunogen encompasses essentially the full-length HSPB2 protein and includes its characteristic alpha-crystallin domain. A Heat Shock Protein Beta-2 Antibody provides a research tool for investigating HSPB2 protein expression, small heat shock protein biology, molecular chaperone activity and muscle-associated proteostasis.
For a broader overview of HSPB2 biology, small heat shock proteins, and molecular chaperone function, see our HSPB2 Antibody / Small Heat Shock Protein Antibody page.
Optimal dilution of the Heat Shock Protein Beta-2 Antibody / HSPB2 Protein Antibody should be determined by the researcher.
Amino acids 1-182 of human HSPB2 were used as the immunogen for the HSPB2 antibody.
After reconstitution, the HSPB2 antibody can be stored for up to one month at 4oC. For long-term, aliquot and store at -20oC. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
