DHB13 Antibody Staining of Normal Human Liver IHC. Immunohistochemistry of FFPE normal human liver tissue using DHB13 Antibody. HIER was performed by steaming the tissue section in pH 9 EDTA buffer for 20 min followed by cooling before staining. Brown cytoplasmic immunoreactivity is visible throughout hepatocytes, demonstrating detection of HSD17B13 Protein in the tested liver section.

DHB13 Antibody / HSD17B13 Protein Antibody recognizes hydroxysteroid 17-beta dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13), also known as DHB13, a member of the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase protein family associated with hepatic lipid metabolism. HSD17B13 is enriched in the liver and localizes prominently to intracellular lipid droplets, organelles involved in the storage and mobilization of neutral lipids. This localization places HSD17B13 at an important interface between lipid storage, metabolic regulation, and normal hepatic cellular function.

HSD17B13 Protein contains structural characteristics associated with short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase enzymes and has been investigated for enzymatic activities involving lipid-related substrates. Its association with lipid droplets is mediated in part by an N-terminal hydrophobic region, allowing the protein to participate in processes occurring at the lipid droplet surface. HSD17B13 is therefore of interest in research examining hepatic lipid accumulation, metabolic homeostasis, and cellular responses to changes in nutrient and lipid availability.

Human genetic studies have generated considerable interest in HSD17B13 because certain loss-of-function variants are associated with reduced risk of progression in chronic liver disease. These findings have connected HSD17B13 biology with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, alcohol-associated liver disease, hepatic inflammation, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The relationship between reduced HSD17B13 function and protection from liver injury has also made the protein an important target in therapeutic research focused on chronic liver disorders.
