Hepatocyte Growth Factor Antibody EGH2 4C12.1 / Scatter Factor Antibody recognizes HGF, a secreted multifunctional growth factor with important roles in cell proliferation, motility and morphogenesis. HGF was initially characterized as a factor capable of stimulating hepatocyte proliferation and was later found to be identical to scatter factor, which had been independently identified through its ability to promote epithelial cell dispersion and motility.

HGF is synthesized as a single-chain precursor that undergoes proteolytic processing to produce alpha and beta chains joined by a disulfide bond. The mature protein contains an N-terminal domain and four kringle domains within the alpha chain and a serine protease homology domain within the beta chain. Despite this structural similarity to serine proteases, HGF lacks proteolytic activity.

The biological effects of HGF are mediated primarily through the MET receptor tyrosine kinase. Activation of MET by HGF regulates signaling networks controlling cell growth, survival, migration and tissue organization. These activities contribute to epithelial-mesenchymal interactions, embryonic development, angiogenesis and tissue regeneration. Dysregulation of HGF-MET signaling has also been investigated extensively in cancer because increased pathway activity can contribute to tumor growth, invasion and metastatic behavior.

Clone EGH2 4C12.1 is a mouse monoclonal antibody generated against recombinant full-length human HGF protein and recognizes human HGF. This Hepatocyte Growth Factor Antibody is available in standard and BSA-free formulations, with the BSA-free format suitable when antibody coating is required for ELISA.
