Galectin 13 Antibody / Placental Galectin Marker recognizes galectin-13, a beta-galactoside-binding lectin encoded by the LGALS13 gene. Also known as placental protein 13 (PP13), galectin-13 is a member of a chromosome 19 cluster of galectin genes with highly enriched placental expression. The protein contains a carbohydrate-recognition domain characteristic of the galectin family and can form a disulfide-linked homodimer. Galectin-13 binds carbohydrate structures found in placental tissue and is particularly associated with the syncytiotrophoblast.
LGALS13 expression is strongly associated with placental development and the maternal-fetal interface. Galectin-13 is predominantly produced by syncytiotrophoblasts and can be released from the placenta into the maternal circulation. Within placental tissue, the protein has been localized to the cytoplasm and apical membrane of the syncytiotrophoblast as well as villous capillary endothelium. These expression characteristics have made galectin-13 an important target for studies of trophoblast differentiation, placentation and pregnancy biology.
Galectin-13 has also been investigated for potential immunoregulatory functions at the maternal-fetal interface. Studies suggest that PP13 can influence maternal immune-cell behavior and may contribute to the specialized immune environment required for successful placentation. Altered placental LGALS13 expression and circulating PP13 levels have been studied extensively in relation to preeclampsia and other pregnancy complications, making the protein relevant to research into placental dysfunction and maternal-fetal health.
This mouse monoclonal antibody was generated against a human recombinant protein corresponding to amino acids 23-134 of galectin-13 and is Protein G affinity purified. NSJ Bioreagents provides this Galectin 13 Antibody for research into LGALS13 expression, trophoblast biology, placental function and pregnancy-associated processes. A Placental Galectin Marker antibody targeting galectin-13 can support studies examining the molecular and immunological biology of the maternal-fetal interface.
For researchers investigating galectin-13 signaling and other proteins involved in cellular communication and regulatory pathways, see our Signal Transduction Antibodies page for additional research antibodies.
Titering of the Galectin 13 Antibody / Placental Galectin Marker may be required for optimal performance.
A human partial recombinant protein corresponding to amino acids 23-134 was used as the immunogen for the Galectin 13 antibody.
Store the Galectin 13 antibody at 2-8oC (with azide) or aliquot and store at -20oC or colder (without azide).
