FABP9 Antibody / Fatty acid-binding protein 9 Antibody targets FABP9, a member of the intracellular fatty acid-binding protein family. FABPs are small proteins with a conserved beta-barrel fold that accommodates hydrophobic ligands within an internal binding cavity. By interacting with fatty acids and related lipids, family members can influence intracellular lipid availability, movement, and signaling. Despite their structural similarities, different FABPs have distinct expression patterns and physiological roles.
FABP9 is also known as testis fatty acid-binding protein and has been studied in relation to male germ-cell biology. Developing germ cells undergo extensive changes in membrane composition and cellular architecture as they progress toward mature spermatozoa. Lipid-binding proteins may help organize the availability of fatty acids required for membrane remodeling, energy metabolism, and specialized cellular structures. The precise endogenous ligands and trafficking functions of FABP9, however, are not as fully established as those of some widely studied FABP family members.
Spermatogenesis requires coordinated transitions in gene expression, chromatin organization, cytoskeletal structure, and lipid handling. Lipid metabolism is especially important during the formation of the acrosome and flagellum and during changes in the plasma membrane that accompany sperm maturation. The presence of a fatty acid-binding protein in this setting suggests a possible connection between lipid availability and germ-cell differentiation, but its individual contribution must be distinguished from those of other lipid-binding and transport proteins.
NSJ Bioreagents offers this FABP9 Antibody to support investigations of FABP9 in germ-cell development and the organization of intracellular lipid-binding systems. Determining its ligand preferences and molecular partners may clarify how lipid-handling proteins contribute to the structural changes required for sperm formation.
