eRF1 Antibody / Translation Release Factor Antibody, clone 3B6, is a mouse monoclonal antibody that recognizes eRF1, the protein encoded by the ETF1 gene and the essential translation release factor responsible for recognizing all three stop codons during eukaryotic protein synthesis. Acting together with the GTPase eRF3, eRF1 promotes hydrolysis of the peptidyl-tRNA bond within the ribosome, allowing release of newly synthesized polypeptides and completion of translation. Because it recognizes the UAA, UAG, and UGA stop codons, eRF1 serves as the universal class I release factor required for efficient and accurate translation termination.

eRF1 contains conserved functional domains that mediate stop codon recognition, ribosome binding, and peptide release. In addition to terminating translation, eRF1 contributes to ribosome recycling and mRNA quality control pathways, including nonsense-mediated decay, helping maintain translational fidelity and prevent production of aberrant proteins. Through these activities, eRF1 plays a central role in protein homeostasis and regulation of gene expression at the translational level.

Because translation termination occurs in every actively translating cell, eRF1 is ubiquitously expressed across tissues and cell types. Alterations in eRF1 function can influence stop codon readthrough, translational accuracy, cellular stress responses, and disease-associated protein synthesis. Consequently, eRF1 is widely studied in molecular biology, cancer research, virology, and investigations of genetic disorders caused by premature termination codons.
