DCTN5 Antibody / Dynactin subunit 5 Antibody targets a component of dynactin, the multiprotein assembly that enables cytoplasmic dynein to transport cargo along microtubules. DCTN5 encodes the small dynactin subunit commonly called p25. Dynactin links the force-generating motor dynein to cargo adaptors and helps coordinate long-distance movement of vesicles, organelles, and protein complexes. This transport is especially consequential in polarized cells, where materials must move between distant regions of the cytoplasm.
Dynactin contains an actin-related filament built around ARP1, a shoulder complex, and a projecting structure that includes the large p150 subunit. DCTN5 contributes to the pointed-end complex of the ARP1 filament alongside proteins such as DCTN4 and DCTN6. The pointed-end complex helps define dynactin architecture and participates in interactions relevant to cargo engagement. Structural studies of dynein-dynactin assemblies have shown that dynactin is not merely an attachment platform: it organizes dynein motors into productive transport complexes when appropriate activating adaptors are present. Consequently, the contribution of individual dynactin subunits must be considered within the larger assembly rather than as isolated motor proteins.
Dynein-dynactin transport supports endosome positioning, Golgi organization, mitotic spindle function, and redistribution of intracellular components. Defects in this system can be particularly disruptive to neurons because axonal transport must operate across exceptional distances. The precise contribution of p25 to distinct cargo classes remains an active structural and cell-biological question. NSJ Bioreagents offers this DCTN5 Antibody to support investigation of dynactin subunit organization and the mechanisms that connect microtubule motors to intracellular cargo. Defining the interactions of the pointed-end complex may clarify how dynactin achieves cargo selectivity while preserving efficient directional transport.
