Cytokeratin 19 Antibody KRT19/799 / CK19 Monoclonal Antibody recognizes keratin 19, a type I intermediate filament protein encoded by the KRT19 gene. Cytokeratin 19 is a distinctive member of the keratin family because it lacks the extended C-terminal tail found in many other type I keratins. It forms intermediate filament networks with compatible type II keratins, including keratin 8, contributing to cytoskeletal organization and mechanical stability in epithelial cells. Its expression is associated with simple epithelia, basal epithelial populations, and certain epithelial progenitor compartments.
In normal tissues, KRT19 is expressed in epithelial structures of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, breast, pancreas, and hepatobiliary system. It is particularly prominent in biliary epithelial cells and pancreatic ductal epithelium, making it relevant to investigations of ductal differentiation. In the liver, CK19 expression helps distinguish cholangiocytes from mature hepatocytes, which predominantly express keratins 8 and 18. This distribution has made Cytokeratin 19 Antibody KRT19/799 useful for studying epithelial lineage and tissue organization.
In cancer research, KRT19 is widely investigated as a marker of epithelial differentiation. Many adenocarcinomas and other epithelial malignancies retain CK19 expression, including tumors arising in the breast, lung, pancreas, thyroid, and gastrointestinal tract. Immunohistochemical analysis can reveal the distribution of CK19-positive tumor cells within complex tissue architecture. However, KRT19 is not specific to an individual carcinoma, and its expression must be interpreted alongside morphology and complementary markers.
Beyond its structural role, KRT19 has attracted interest in studies of epithelial plasticity and tumor progression. Changes in its expression may accompany altered differentiation, epithelial remodeling, and the emergence of distinct tumor cell populations. KRT19 is also used in molecular studies of circulating tumor cells, where its transcripts can contribute to epithelial marker panels. Detection of KRT19 alone, however, does not establish malignancy or metastatic potential.
NSJ Bioreagents provides Cytokeratin 19 Antibody KRT19/799 for investigating epithelial differentiation and intermediate filament organization. The CK19 Monoclonal Antibody supports research into ductal epithelial identity, carcinoma-associated keratin expression, and the relationship between cytoskeletal organization and epithelial cell phenotype.
Explore our Cytokeratin 19 Antibody collection for additional antibodies targeting KRT19 and research into epithelial differentiation, ductal cell identity, and carcinoma biology.
Optimal dilution of the Cytokeratin 19 Antibody KRT19/799 / CK19 Monoclonal Antibody should be determined by the researcher.
1. Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in pH 9 10mM Tris with 1mM EDTA for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 min
2. The prediluted format is supplied in a dropper bottle and is optimized for use in IHC. After epitope retrieval step (if required), drip mAb solution onto the tissue section and incubate at RT for 30 min.
Recombinant human KRT19 protein was used as the immunogen for the Cytokeratin 19 antibody.
Store the Cytokeratin 19 antibody at 2-8oC (with azide) or aliquot and store at -20oC or colder (without azide).
