CRYAA Antibody Human HepG2 IF. Immunofluorescent staining of FFPE human HepG2 cells with CRYAA antibody (green) demonstrated predominantly cytoplasmic staining, consistent with the localization of Alpha A Crystallin, a small heat shock protein and ATP-independent molecular chaperone that protects cells from protein aggregation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. CRYAA contributes to protein homeostasis and cellular stress resistance in both ocular and non-ocular tissues. Nuclei were counterstained with DAPI (blue). HIER was performed by steaming sections in pH 6 citrate buffer for 20 minutes prior to staining. These results support the utility of CRYAA Antibody for studies of molecular chaperone function, protein homeostasis, and cellular stress responses.

CRYAA (Alpha A Crystallin) is a small heat shock protein and ATP-independent molecular chaperone that maintains lens transparency by preventing protein aggregation and protecting cells from oxidative stress. Specific immunoreactive bands are detected at approximately 20-23 kDa, consistent with the expected molecular weight of CRYAA. These results demonstrate cross-species reactivity and support the utility of CRYAA Antibody for studies of lens biology, molecular chaperone function, protein homeostasis, cataract mechanisms, and ocular disease.

CRYAA Antibody / Molecular Chaperone Antibody recognizes CRYAA (Alpha A Crystallin), a major structural protein of the vertebrate eye lens and a member of the small heat shock protein family. CRYAA functions as an ATP-independent molecular chaperone that prevents aggregation of unfolded or partially folded proteins, preserving lens transparency and maintaining long-term optical clarity. Beyond its structural role within lens fiber cells, CRYAA protects cells from oxidative stress, apoptosis, and protein misfolding, making it an essential regulator of protein homeostasis and cellular survival. This recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody (clone 10B9) is well suited for detecting CRYAA in studies of lens biology, molecular chaperone function, and cellular stress responses.

Although predominantly associated with the ocular lens, CRYAA is also expressed in the retina, skeletal muscle, heart, brain, and selected epithelial tissues, where it contributes to cytoprotection during oxidative stress and other cellular insults. Through its molecular chaperone activity, CRYAA stabilizes damaged proteins, limits protein aggregation, and promotes proper protein folding to preserve cellular function. These protective mechanisms have expanded the importance of CRYAA beyond ophthalmic research to include investigations of neuroprotection, cardiovascular biology, and protein quality control.

Mutations in the CRYAA gene have been linked to congenital cataracts, age-related cataracts, retinal degeneration, and additional disorders characterized by impaired protein homeostasis. Altered CRYAA expression has also been associated with several human cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, where disruption of molecular chaperone activity contributes to cellular dysfunction and disease progression. Consequently, CRYAA continues to be investigated as both a valuable biomarker and a potential therapeutic target. E. coli-derived recombinant human protein (amino acids M1-S173) was used as the immunogen for the CRYAA antibody.

Storage
