Coronin 1A Antibody / TACO Antibody recognizes Coronin 1A, an actin-associated protein encoded by the CORO1A gene and expressed predominantly in cells of hematopoietic origin. Also historically known as TACO, or Tryptophan Aspartate-Containing Coat Protein, Coronin 1A belongs to the coronin family of cytoskeletal regulatory proteins. It associates with the actin cytoskeleton and participates in processes that influence immune cell movement, signaling and membrane dynamics. Its strong association with leukocytes makes Coronin 1A an important target for research into immune cell biology and host defense.
Coronin 1A contributes to the regulation of actin-dependent processes in lymphocytes and myeloid cells. In T cells, the protein participates in signaling and cytoskeletal events important for cellular homeostasis, migration and immune responses. CORO1A function is particularly important for normal T-cell development and survival, and alterations in the gene can result in immune dysfunction. These properties have made Coronin 1A useful for investigating the relationship between cytoskeletal organization and leukocyte signaling.
The historical designation TACO is closely associated with studies of macrophage phagosome biology. Coronin 1A can associate transiently with phagosomal membranes following particle uptake. Its relationship with phagosome maturation became particularly notable through research examining the intracellular survival of Mycobacterium species in macrophages. These studies established TACO as a target of interest in research into macrophage-pathogen interactions, intracellular microbial persistence and mechanisms of innate host defense.
Beyond macrophage biology, Coronin 1A has important functions throughout the immune system. CORO1A-dependent regulation of the actin cytoskeleton can influence lymphocyte trafficking and signaling, while genetic defects affecting Coronin 1A have been associated with immunodeficiency phenotypes involving abnormal T-cell function. The protein therefore provides a link between cytoskeletal dynamics, immune cell signaling and both innate and adaptive immune responses.
