CK18 Antibody KRT18/836 / Cytokeratin 18 Monoclonal Antibody recognizes keratin 18, an acidic type I intermediate filament protein encoded by the human KRT18 gene. Cytokeratin 18 is characteristic of simple epithelial cells and contributes to the organization of cytoplasmic filament networks that maintain cellular architecture. It typically associates with keratin 8, a type II intermediate filament protein, forming heteropolymeric structures that provide mechanical support and participate in the organization of intracellular components.
The distribution of KRT18 reflects epithelial lineage and differentiation. It is expressed in glandular epithelia and numerous internal organs, including the liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, and reproductive tissues. In contrast, mature stratified squamous epithelia generally exhibit different keratin expression profiles. These distinctions make cytokeratin expression patterns informative for investigating epithelial identity and the relationship between tissue structure and cellular specialization.
In carcinoma research, CK18 is frequently examined alongside other epithelial markers to characterize tumor differentiation. Many adenocarcinomas retain expression of keratins 8 and 18, reflecting their origin from simple or glandular epithelial populations. Tumors arising in the breast, colon, lung, pancreas, and prostate may demonstrate KRT18 immunoreactivity, although expression intensity and distribution vary with histological subtype and differentiation state. CK18 Antibody KRT18/836 is relevant to studies examining these epithelial characteristics.
Changes in cytokeratin organization can accompany malignant transformation, altered cell polarity, and cytoskeletal remodeling. Keratin filament networks interact with cellular junctions and other structural systems, influencing epithelial integrity during physiological stress. KRT18 expression may persist during tumor progression even when other differentiation-associated proteins become altered. Nevertheless, CK18 is not specific to a particular carcinoma, and its detection should be interpreted alongside tissue morphology and complementary markers.
NSJ Bioreagents provides CK18 Antibody KRT18/836 for investigating human epithelial tissues and carcinoma models. This mouse monoclonal antibody was generated using recombinant human KRT18 protein. The Cytokeratin 18 Monoclonal Antibody supports research examining epithelial lineage, glandular differentiation, and the organization of intermediate filament networks in normal and neoplastic cells.
Explore our Cytokeratin 18 Antibody KRT18/835 for additional research into KRT18 expression, epithelial differentiation, and cytoskeletal organization in normal tissues and carcinomas.
Optimal dilution of the CK18 Antibody KRT18/836 / Cytokeratin 18 Monoclonal Antibody should be determined by the researcher.
1. The prediluted format is supplied in a dropper bottle and is optimized for use in IHC. After epitope retrieval step (if required), drip mAb solution onto the tissue section and incubate at RT for 30 min.
Recombinant human KRT18 protein was used as the immunogen for the CK18 antibody.
Store the CK18 antibody at 2-8oC (with azide) or aliquot and store at -20oC or colder (without azide).
