CD81 Antibody for Western Blot recognizes CD81, a widely expressed integral membrane protein and member of the tetraspanin family. Also known as TAPA-1 and Tetraspanin-28, CD81 contains four transmembrane domains and participates in the organization of protein complexes at the cell surface. Tetraspanins interact with receptors, integrins and other membrane-associated proteins to form specialized membrane domains that influence signaling and cellular interactions. Detection of CD81 by western blot can be useful for examining its expression in cell and tissue lysates and comparing relative protein abundance among experimental samples.

CD81 contributes to tetraspanin-enriched membrane domains that coordinate the localization and interactions of numerous cell-surface proteins. Through these molecular associations, CD81 participates in processes including cell adhesion, migration, proliferation and signal transduction. Rather than functioning primarily as an enzyme or conventional signaling receptor, CD81 acts as a membrane organizer whose biological effects depend on its interacting partners and cellular context. A CD81 Antibody for Western Blot can support biochemical analysis of this tetraspanin across different cell types and tissues.

CD81 has particularly important functions in immune cell biology.
