Catalase Antibody / Hydrogen Peroxide Detoxification Enzyme (clone AAGA-3) is a recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes catalase (CAT), a highly conserved antioxidant enzyme responsible for converting hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Catalase serves as one of the primary enzymatic defenses against reactive oxygen species, protecting cells from oxidative damage while maintaining intracellular redox homeostasis. Because hydrogen peroxide is generated continuously during normal metabolism, catalase activity is essential for preserving cellular integrity and preventing oxidative injury. Catalase Antibody / Hydrogen Peroxide Detoxification Enzyme is widely used to investigate antioxidant defense mechanisms and oxidative stress biology.

Catalase is localized predominantly within peroxisomes, where it detoxifies hydrogen peroxide produced during fatty acid beta oxidation and numerous additional oxidative metabolic reactions. Working in concert with superoxide dismutases, glutathione peroxidases, and other antioxidant enzymes, catalase protects proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids from oxidative damage while regulating redox-sensitive signaling pathways involved in cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. High catalase expression is observed in metabolically active tissues including liver, kidney, heart, and lung, reflecting its fundamental role in aerobic metabolism.

Abnormal catalase expression or activity has been associated with aging, diabetes, chronic inflammation, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, liver injury, pulmonary disease, and multiple forms of cancer.
