CD13 Antibody / Myeloid Cell Marker recognizes CD13, a widely expressed cell surface glycoprotein encoded by the ANPEP gene. CD13 is also known as aminopeptidase N (APN), alanyl aminopeptidase and membrane alanyl aminopeptidase. It is a zinc-dependent membrane metalloprotease that removes N-terminal amino acids from peptides and participates in the metabolism and regulation of biologically active peptides. CD13 is expressed in numerous tissues and cell types, including myeloid cells, renal proximal tubule epithelium, intestinal brush border, fibroblasts and endothelial cells.
Within the hematopoietic system, CD13 is an established myeloid cell marker expressed by granulocytes, monocytes, mast cells and myeloid progenitor populations. Its lineage-associated expression has made CD13 useful for studying myeloid differentiation and hematologic malignancies. CD13 is frequently expressed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), particularly during myeloid blast crisis, while normal lymphocytes, erythrocytes and platelets generally lack CD13 expression. The protein's distribution therefore supports research into normal myeloid development as well as leukemia and other disorders involving myeloid cells.
Beyond its role as a Myeloid Cell Marker, CD13 functions as an ectopeptidase with diverse biological activities. ANPEP/CD13 has been implicated in peptide metabolism, cell motility, adhesion, phagocytosis, angiogenesis and immune responses. Its expression on epithelial and endothelial populations and in numerous cancers has also generated interest in CD13 as a marker for studies of tumor biology and the tumor microenvironment. The mature protein is extensively glycosylated, contributing to its characteristic apparent molecular weight of approximately 110-150 kDa depending on glycosylation.
This mouse monoclonal antibody was generated against a human CD13 protein fragment and recognizes an extracellular epitope. It is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemical detection of human CD13, including testing in kidney, tonsil and prostate tissue. NSJ Bioreagents provides this CD13 Antibody for research into ANPEP expression, myeloid differentiation, hematologic malignancies and CD13-associated cellular biology. A Myeloid Cell Marker antibody targeting CD13 can support studies of myeloid lineage cells and their differentiation in normal and disease states.
For researchers investigating CD13 expression in immune and hematopoietic cell populations, see our CD Antibodies page for additional antibodies targeting cluster of differentiation markers.
Optimal dilution of the CD13 Antibody / Myeloid Cell Marker should be determined by the researcher.
A portion of amino acids 50-250 from the human protein was used as the immunogen for the Aminopeptidase-N / CD13 antibody.
Aliquot the Aminopeptidase-N / CD13 antibody and store frozen at -20oC or colder. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
