17-beta-HSD 13 Antibody HSD17B13/13104 / Lipid Droplet Protein Antibody recognizes hydroxysteroid 17-beta dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13), a liver-enriched member of the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase protein family. HSD17B13 is prominently associated with intracellular lipid droplets, organelles that store neutral lipids and participate in the regulation of cellular lipid metabolism. This localization has made HSD17B13 an important target for studying hepatic lipid handling and metabolic regulation.
HSD17B13 contains structural characteristics associated with short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase enzymes and has been investigated for enzymatic activities involving lipid-related substrates. An N-terminal hydrophobic region contributes to its association with lipid droplets, positioning the protein at an interface between lipid storage and cellular metabolism. As a Lipid Droplet Protein, HSD17B13 is therefore relevant to investigations of hepatic lipid accumulation, metabolic homeostasis, and the cellular response to changes in nutrient availability.
Interest in HSD17B13 has increased substantially following human genetic studies linking loss-of-function variants with reduced risk of progression in chronic liver disease. HSD17B13 is consequently studied in the context of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, alcohol-associated liver disease, hepatic inflammation, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
